critique so far is that the background and main protag blend together too well. Cartoons people go line-art character and lineless for dead BG objects, some make the BG a Complimentary Color (aka opposite on the wheel), while another popular choice is to make the character bright and the BG more saturated or dark (Hollow Knight, Ori and the Blind Forest, Child of Light. . . )

That’s a fair critique! I know the in game version of the character had a shadow, which should help a bit, but it’s definitely something to think about as I make more of the interiors.

He is the illegitimate son between a knight and prostitute. Due to his dubious origins, he's been mistreated left and right by his colleagues, thus needing to work harder to be approved by the higher ups.

A dutiful knight, he's very good at what he does, but his past has rendered him unapproachable to most. His haughty, intimidating nature is donned to separate those worthy or unworthy of his time. Underneath the armor, he is a handsome man with a country boy's charm. But is this a rumor or fact? His demeanor is so cold, only few know the answer...
